Zasów

Zasów is situated within the Subcarpathia Voivodeship, in the municipality of Żyraków and in the county of Dębica. Currently, the town is associated with the tree nursing industry as in the region of Zasów there are more than one hundred farms where the top quality qualified nursery material is produced. Among others fruit trees, decorative and fruit shrubs as well as flowers, mainly decorative roses are being grown here.

Zasów has a rich court history and the beginning of tree nursing is associated with it. The first farms were established in 1879, when Witold Łubieński took over the town and established the first fruit tree nursery. For years he gave work to local residents and promoted tree nursing in the area. He not only was a supplier of nursery materials, but he also shared his knowledge about the profession. Witold’s son – Tadeusz Łubieński – followed his father’s footsteps. For years they were working together developing the farm. Their work resulted in exceptionally modern – as for those time – garden plants where fruit trees were grown. Local peasants lived to see the Trade Union of Farmers and the Agricultural and Trade Cooperative which started functioning in the area of Zasów at the initiative of Tadeusz Łubieński. Alfred Łubieński also continued the family tree nursing tradition. He gained his knowledge in a secondary school and then at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. He completed his education, obtaining a diploma of gardening in Geneva. He had his internship in the Versailles of Paris, and the experience he gained there was brought to the area of Zasów. Apart from growing fruit trees and decorative shrubs, he initiated cultivation of roses, and he created a charming English-style park around the family court. During Alfred’s time the largest nursery of fruit trees, decorative trees and roses in Lesser Poland was created in Zasów. Since then, nursing has been the main field of activities of residents of the area of Zasów.

Currently, farm owners are associated within the Subcarpathian Association of Nursery Producers in Zasów, and therefore they have a chance to extend their business relations and dynamically develop their nurseries. Numerous producers focus their activities on foreign markets, in particular the European Union, which confirms that products from Zasów have gained wide recognition among customers from all over Europe.
